United Strand’s, Frank Ilett, Reacts to West Ham 1-1 Man Utd

Sadly, the time has not come for the United Strand’s Frank Ilett to finally get a haircut. In October 2024, the Manchester United fan promised that he would not cut his hair until his team won five games in a row.

It’s been 495 days since his pledge, as he’s watched Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim both get that sack at Old Trafford, and now just when it looked as though the wait would be over, West Ham United proved too much for the Red Devils.

Man United took on the Hammers in the Premier League, having won their last four games on the bounce. The run began when Michael Carrick took charge in Januarybeating rivals Manchester City 2-0, but stunning Arsenal at the Emirates with a 3-2 away victory. Home wins against Fulham (3-2), and Tottenham (2-0) swiftly followed.

As such, Ilett needed the Red Devils to pick up three points at the London Stadium to finally secure his trip to the barbers. However, the game would end up finishing 1-1 with goals from Tomas Soucek and Benjamin Sesko enough to see both teams leave with just a point each.

How Ilett Reacted to the West Ham Draw

Ilett had livestreamed the event, no doubt hoping the camera would catch him joyous celebrating at the end of a fifth win in a row. Instead, there were near-heartbreaking scenes at the final whistle. Indeed, the 29-year-old was seen in tears.

Footage of his reaction to Soucek’s goal was also shared online:

Speaking immediately after Man United’s draw against West Ham, Ilett was left speechless. Eventually, he uttered the words:

“It was a strange game. Heartbroken.”

Ilett is planning to do another watch-along live stream when he finally cuts his hair, but that won’t be for some time now.

United Strand Will Donate Hair to Charity

While Ilett has no doubt profited from his surprise rise to fame, he has denied claims that he’s made a fortune from media and sponsors thanks to his pledge. Some have speculated that he’s now a millionaire, but, speaking to SunSport, he stated that’s simply not true:

“I’m definitely not the millionaire that some people think I am. There’s been a lot of talk about making millions, but that isn’t the case.

“It’s not as well paid as some people think. But that’s not why I started it in the first place.”

He has, however, worked with brands like Paddy Power and set up an e-commerce business. Even so, he has charitable plans for when he does cut his hair. Indeed, Ilett will donate it to the Little Princess Trust, a UK charity providing wigs to children who lost their hair due to illness.

He explained, “I’m also doing a fundraiser for them. I think we’ve raised about £6,000 for them so far. It’s a really great charity, with great people there too. “The length of my hair is 25cm now, which is thankfully long enough to be able to donate.”
