Kevin Volland’s return to German football is officially confirmed. The 31-year-old 15-times-capped German international returns to the Bundesrepublik after spending three seasons in France with AS Monaco. In a total eight Bundesliga seasons spent playing for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Volland scored 77 goals and registered 62 assists in 247 Bundesliga appearances.
No German footballing outlets are currently disputing earlier reports that die Eisernen have paid Monaco a base transfer fee of around €4.5 million plus bonuses for the Marktoberdorf-native. Volland had fallen into disuse with his French club, making just 17 appearances in Ligue 1 last season. He did net three goals.
“I grew up in the Bundesliga and never lost sight of it,” Volland noted in a club statement, “The fact that I now continue to get the chance to play at the highest level here at Union makes me very happy.”
“We sensed in each of the conversations with Kevin how much he wanted to return to Germany and the Bundesliga,” FCU managing director Oliver Ruhnert added, “He has proven his qualities in front of goal both nationally and internationally over all these years.”
