Aston Villa’s UEFA Champions League adventure came to an end at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday and Unai Emery has now backed his former club to go on and win the whole thing.
Aston Villa had a 3-1 deficit to overturn at Villa Park. Despite going two goals down on the night, the Premier League side bounced back, scoring three to give themselves a chance of qualification. However, they couldn’t get the all-important goal to take the game to extra-time. As a result, it is PSG who advance to the semi-finals.
Opta have Barcelona as the favourites to win this season’s Champions League, however, post-match, Emery chose an alternative winner. “PSG are the favourites to win the Champions League. They are in the semi-finals and clearly a contender to win it,” said Emery in a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News.
Les Parisiens, who have already wrapped up the Ligue 1 title, will face either Real Madrid or Arsenal in the semi-finals of the competition.
