A transfer-linked member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this weekend confirmed his plans for the season ahead.
The player in question? Eric García.
Stopper Eric, for his part, of course spent this past season plying his trade with Girona, as part of a year-long loan.
And the 23-year-old went on to rediscover his very best form whilst at the Estadi Montilivi, playing a starring role en route to Girona’s remarkable 3rd-placed La Liga finish.
He has since gone on to return to base with parent club Barcelona, albeit with speculation having continued to swirl that, come the transfer window’s close, he could be on the move once more.
This comes owing to both outside interest in Eric’s services, and something of a logjam at the heart of Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick’s defence.
Speaking to the media this weekend, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future was put to the defender himself.
And, fresh off playing his part in Spain’s gold medal triumph at the Olympic Games, Eric went on to shut down any and all remaining speculation.
“I will stay at Barça and play there next season. It’s 100%,” he announced to the media.
