Hugo Lloris (36) has a year left on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur, but as reported by L’Équipe in mid-May, the former France captain is expected to leave the London club this summer. Speaking to BFM Nice Côte d’Azur, Lloris refused to rule out a return to formative club OGC Nice.
Lloris is back in the region this weekend and will attend Saturday’s match against Olympique Lyonnais, where he will receive a trophy, crowning him as Nice’s best player of the century.
France’s most capped player in history looks set to take on a new challenge next season. As L’Équipe have reported, that could be in Saudi Arabia, but questioned about a return to Nice, with whom he played 78 professional games, Lloris seemed receptive to the idea.
“I am very attached to the city of Nice, as you know. I can’t speak about concrete things. The club has to finish the season first, there are two goalkeepers of high quality, including one that I’m good friends with in Kasper Schmeichel. You can understand that it’s difficult to speak about these kinds of subjects. I’ll let fate handle things,” he said in an interview transcribed by RMC Sport.
Due to injury, Lloris, who retired from international football following the Qatar World Cup, hasn’t featured since April, and interim manager Ryan Mason was evasive when questioned about the goalkeeper’s future at Tottenham.
