Tottenham Hotspur may need to spend at least €40 million if they want to sign impressive Torino centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno this summer.
The 24-year-old was previously valued at around €35m, but TuttoMercatoWeb claims Torino will accept nothing less than their new asking price.
Tottenham have begun plans to bolster their ranks this summer after a disappointing end-of-season run that resulted in failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Ange Postecoglou’s side won just two of their final seven Premier League games (L5) – an awful run that included four consecutive defeats, which served Aston Villa the final top-four spot on a plate.
Spurs are aiming to add quality and depth across every department of Postecoglou’s squad, and defensive reinforcement is now considered a priority.
Buongiorno would be an impressive signing for Spurs
A major squad overhaul is on the cards at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with several first-team players set to be axed to create space for a couple of fresh faces.
Buongiorno has featured 30 times in all competitions this season, helping to keep an impressive 14 clean sheets and notching three goals and an assist.
He boasts a 56% success rate in aerial duels and won 58% of his ground battles.
Spurs need to reinforce their rearguard, considering they conceded 61 goals this season.
They must plug the gaps at the back if they want to challenge for a top-four spot next term, and Buongiorno seems to tick all their boxes.
