Tottenham set to sign Micky van de Ven

According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are on the cusp of securing a £43 million agreement with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven.

The much-coveted defender will head to the UK to don the Lilywhite shirt, subject to medicals. If all goes according to plan, he will sign a long-term contract and embark on a thrilling new chapter in his career.

The Dutchman showcased his prowess in the Bundesliga last season for the Wolves. He made 33 appearances for Wolfsburg, only missing one game.

Van de Ven was instrumental in Wolfsburg’s eighth-place finish. The young stalwart was a vital cog in their defence, contributing to 11 shutouts.

Van de Ven boasts an impressive 64% duel success rate and records excellent progressive carrying numbers.

Van de Ven stands tall at 6 feet 3 inches (191 cm) and has a commanding presence on the pitch. Also, he is surprisingly quick for his size.

During the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, he was named the fastest centre-back in the German top flight. He is a force on the field with such speed, strength, and skill in his arsenal.

The need for a defensive reinforcement at Tottenham is obvious. Last season, Spurs conceded 63 goals. They were among the top teams for goals conceded.

Van de Ven’s arrival could mark a turning point for the club, fortifying their backline and providing a solid foundation for success.

Tottenham could still add another central defender to their ranks to shore up their defence and are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

Van de Ven is Tottenham’s fourth summer signing, joining the likes of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon.

Also, Spurs have permanently signed Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski following their loan spells at the club.

Tottenham now face a fight to keep star striker Harry Kane with Bayern Munich submitting a new offer worth over €100 million for the England international.

If he leaves, they will need to dip into the market for a replacement.
