Tottenham ‘like’ £40m Premier League midfielder at Hotspur Way

Tottenham are admirers of West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek although the Hammers aren’t likely to sell him this summer, according to The Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Antonio Conte’s side have already made a bright start to the window, bringing in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, and the north Londoners are now being linked with a shock move for the Czech Republic midfielder.

What’s the latest news involving Soucek?

With Soucek’s Irons future suddenly in doubt after talks broke down over a new contract, Spurs have emerged as shock suitors for the ex-Slavia Prague star.

According to the Guardian, discussions over a new London Stadium deal have reached an ‘impasse’ over a pay rise and extension.

As a result, Football Insider believe Tottenham have been offered Soucek’s services, although he will cost them around £40m.

The report states this comes following a fall-out between Soucek and Moyes, who brought the ace to West Ham permanently two years ago after a successful loan spell during the Covid-hit season.

There is said to be ‘tension behind the scenes’ and a very ‘real chance’ the midfielder could end his two-and-a-half year stay with the Hammers this window.

Despite not being at his best last term, Soucek has scored an impressive 19 goals in 105 appearances for West Ham, striking up a solid partnership with Declan Rice, who described him as ‘unbelievable‘.

What did Taylor say about Soucek?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Soucek is an interesting one because it appears that his contract situation isn’t crystal clear whether he’s going to sign, it’s not straightforward.

“Interestingly, I heard about six weeks ago that he’s a player Tottenham like, which I find quite strange.

“I think clubs will look at Soucek if his contract runs down, but the way I see it is West Ham will be looking to improve their squad rather than offload.”

Could Tottenham sign Soucek?

Soucek has proved himself as a goalscoring midfielder, which is something Tottenham lack in their squad, although this isn’t a deal that looks likely to happen.

Spurs’ four centre midfielders, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur, Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored twice between them last season, meaning it’s an area Conte would like to improve, but the London rivals generally don’t do business with each other, let alone involving one of West Ham’s key players.

Therefore, while it’s clear that Soucek could leave the London Stadium this summer, Tottenham isn’t a probable destination.
