The Spurs manager has been sacked after a dismal record that leaves the club close to the relegation zone
Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur, with the club’s patience for poor results finally breaking with the club close to the relegation zone – and some fans in the football.london comments sections say that they’re surprised that he lasted so long.
A defeat to Newcastle United left Spurs just five points above the relegation zone, a far cry from the expectations of the summer of 2025 when Frank was appointed. With every chance of West Ham continuing their resurgence, Spurs could find themselves in the bottom three – a fact that finally convinced the board to pull the trigger.
Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou, who’s Europa League win did not paper over the cracks of a poor Premier League season. Despite early promising results, Frank’s 11 losses puts the team deservedly in the bottom half.
No replacement has been announced, with Spurs not playing until February 22, when they’ll face league leaders Arsenal. Available managers include the recently sacked Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi, ex-Real Madrid man Xabi Alonso, and Enzo Maresca, who is still available after leaving Chelsea.

Frank’s time in charge has left him with few defenders amongst the fanbase. Reader Daveindevon says: “What a shame they waited so long. He should have gone weeks and weeks ago. Maybe too late now to salvage anything.”
Commenter Thfc4life writes: “So it’s done! Let’s see if they have learned from their last 6 failed appointments. If it is another manager that have not achieved elsewhere, the owners are not serious and maybe Alan Sugar is right – sell the club.”
Alexd2 says: “Yes! Well done! About time. He should have been sacked before now, the biggest mistake ever made by the board. Now we can smile.”
EssexSpur writes: “About time too. I might go to the Arsenal game now. Someone, I suspect Heitings, will have 12 days to coach some tactics into them!”
THFC4Tim adds: “That’s the first part done, now we need new owners.”

Others say that the problems at Spurs go deeper than the manager. On our Facebook page, Walter J Poulter says: “If you don’t invest and struggle with injury, no manager can recover our status as a PL club. We have a captain who does not lead by example and a board immune to the obvious in front of their eyes.”
Adrian Codling writes: “Here we go again, another reset of tactics. But what chance has the new man got? Only 13 senior players fit, & a lot of them not up to the standard needed to be successful.”
Terry Seach says: “It’s about time the players take some accountability for their poor performances. Can’t always be the coach’s fault. But that’s Premier League football I suppose.”
As for who comes next, Gareth Johnstone says: “I’d take Xabi, Poch or Klopp. Realistically Klopp won’t take another Prem team, Xabi will hold out for Liverpool, so Poch I think. He could do wonders with youth players and improving mentality as he did last time. Also probably the only one who would still entertain us if we did go down (I’d take Mckenna as well to get us back up if that happened).”
Daniel Sweet writes: “Alonso, Xavi, Klopp. They the only ones who could change it.”
Lisa Westall adds: “De Zerbi – no thanks. Too abrasive. Not a good fit. Neither is Amorim. Klopp would never take the job. Xavi not convinced by him, great player but as a manager? Which leaves Poch who would be available come the summer and has unfinished business at Spurs, and would appease the majority of fans I suspect.”
