Tottenham Hotspur could target a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the summer, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs has suggested.
The north London side are expected to be on the market for a new shot-stopper after the season to potentially replace Guglielmo Vicario, with a move for Maignan seen as a possibility.
The French international was a target for Premier League rivals Chelsea last summer, but could soon clear any doubts over his future by penning a new contract with Milan, with his current deal expiring in June.
Maignan is believed to be in talks to extend his stay with the Serie A club, despite previous indications that he was looking to depart San Siro last year.
Mike Maignan ‘Possibility’ for Tottenham
Jacobs, speaking on Last Word on Spurs, revealed that Tottenham could consider a move for Maignan after the season, although the Frenchman is in discussions to prolong his stay in Italy:
“The name that I’d sort of heard was Mike Maignan as one possibility for Tottenham, and we know Chelsea had looked in the past.
“Now, Maignan is in talks to extend, which is interesting, because during the Club World Cup, he was adamant that he wasn’t going to extend.
“So things obviously change, and it’s quite a fluid situation. Therefore, there’ll be a few goalkeepers available on the market over the course of the summer.”
Maignan joined Milan from French outfit Lille in 2021 and lifted the Serie A title in his first season with the Italian side.
The 30-year-old, praised as ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’, has made 187 appearances for Milan to date, keeping 70 clean sheets and conceding 189 goals.
He ranks fifth in Serie A for clean sheets this season with nine, helping Milan remain in contention for their first Italian championship in five years.
Maignan has been France’s number one goalkeeper since 2023, winning 37 caps following his first call-up to the squad in 2020.
Move for Crysencio Summerville Ruled Out
Tottenham appear unlikely to pursue a move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville this month, despite initial reports suggesting the north London club were readying an approach.
Spurs are believed to be on the lookout for further reinforcements after signing midfielder Conor Gallagher and left-back Souza.
Thomas Frank has been operating with a significantly depleted squad this season, with as many as 13 players missing Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs also saw Lucas Bergvall pick up a serious injury in the Champions League encounter, with the 19-year-old midfielder set to miss up to three months with an ankle setback.
