Tottenham Hotspur are on the lookout for a ‘game-changing’ signing during the January transfer window.
Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski were brought in to add to the creativity of the team but it is understood Tottenham are on the lookout for another forward player in the next window.
Kulusevski was a big miss when he was sidelined through injury and there is still the absence of proven goalscorers if Harry Kane picks up an injury.
It is with that in mind that Spurs will scour the market for game-changing players who can help them tip games in their favour, particularly in light of how many matches have been on a knife-edge this term.
Antonio Conte has tried to give Bryan Gil chances and while he has been good, he is not quite reliable enough yet and might leave on loan.
Memphis Depay is being linked as he looks to move on in the new year while there are also suggestions Anthony Gordon remains on the radar.
One well informed source has told me that Tottenham may yet move for Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven though, while Rafael Leao’s uncertain situation at Spurs’ Champions League opponents AC Milan may well be explored – he has a release clause of around £132m.
It is also worth keeping an eye on Adama Traore of Wolves. The arrival of Julen Lopetegui may see him stay at Molineux for a little longer but Spurs do like him as he has an Ivan Perisic-type versatility about him.
Spurs have been linked to the signing of Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton-Diaz but sources say that opportunity has been passed up by the club previously and is not likely to be pursued now.
These are interesting times for Spurs and Conte as they strive for glory in north London and it will be interesting to see just how this search for two season defining players takes a turn when we get towards the end of the year.
