Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is bracing himself for a Chelsea bid for striker Harry Kane this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The 29-year-old centre-forward reportedly wants to leave Spurs this summer. Several top clubs would like to take him.
Chelsea are one of the clubs in the market for a new number nine. Kai Havertz has been a disappointment when he has led the line this season.
The German forward has only seven league goals this season. He has missed 13 big chances.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not performed up to his usual standard since his return to the Premier League last summer.
The London club has Romelu Lukaku returning from his loan at Inter Milan, but it is unclear if he is welcome back at Stamford Bridge.
Kane is already one of the strikers Chelsea are considering to reinforce their forward line.
However, the Blues are close to hiring Mauricio Pochettino as their head coach. The Argentine manager has a strong relationship with Kane.
Kane played 242 games under Pochettino across five seasons. His appointment will only heighten Chelsea’s interest in the England international.
Although Levy does not want to sell his prized striker, the feeling is that Kane’s contract, which expires in 12 months, will force him to sell.
Levy will not like to see the striker walk away for free next year when he can make money with a sale this year.
Levy might consider selling to clubs abroad, with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain interested in his services.
But Kane wants to stay in England and chase Alan Shearer’s Premier League top scorer record.
Levy does not want to sell to a Premier League club, much less a London rival.
Manchester United reportedly want Kane too, but they are wary of dealing with the Spurs chairman.
It is unclear where Kane will be playing next season, but he’ll be looking for a club where he can challenge for titles.
