Tottenham announce second summer transfer window signing as Fraser Forster confirmed

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Fraser Forster, in their second summer transfer window deal, after Ivan Persic’s move was announced on last week. With Forster’s current contract with Southampton expiring this summer, the goalkeeper will make the move to N17 on a free deal, signing a deal until 2024.

Antonio Conte’s current number one goalkeeper is Hugo Lloris and the skipper signed a new contract with the club in January. This means that the 34-year-old will come in as a backup for the World Cup winner.

This is a role that Pierluigi Gollini has filled, since his loan move to Spurs from Atalanta last summer. However the Italian made just ten appearances in all competitions and the Lilywhites announced last week, that he would be returning to Atalanta.

Not long ago, all eyes were on Sam Johstone to be the Lilywhites’ next backup goalkeeper. However in recent weeks, talk has turned to Forster and it seems to have been a deal that has moved along relatively quickly.

After links switched from the 29-year-old to the now former Southampton keeper, it didn’t take long for the deal to be secured and late last month, Forster had his medical at Hotspur Way.

Last month, Tottenham announced their £150million investment from ENIC, but the deal for Forster won’t cost the club a penny. This is a boost for the club itself and Conte, knowing he has got someone else to step-in, if Lloris picks up an injury next season.

Forster has made over 100 Premier League appearances, making him an experienced goalkeeper. Experience and him being a free transfer are both things that will have attracted Conte and Fabio Paratici to want to make the signing.

The Italian is believed to want at least six new signings this summer. This will not only help add depth to the Tottenham squad, but also add quality to the side he already has available to him.

Therefore Forster is a good second signing to what is hopefully going to be a busy summer in N17.
