According to SER Deportivos via AS, Toni Kroos has refused to renew his contract at Real Madrid and intends, for the time being, to end his spell at the club in 2023.
Kroos reportedly wants to wait and see how the year unfolds, a decision that according to the source has surprised Real Madrid.
The 32-year-old midfielder has already stated on several occasions that his possible next renewal would depend on how he sees his role at the club.
SER Deportivos reports that the idea he has conveyed to the club is that he does not want to be a burden for future planning.
Madrid have been strengthening their midfield for two consecutive summers with two young players – signing Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes in 2021 and Aurélien Tchouaméni from AS Monaco in 2022.
The form of Fede Valverde, who was renewed until 2027, could also see Kroos play a lesser role.
