Toni Kroos named Germany’s Footballer of the Year

After winning the Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid and losing to Spain in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals with Germany, Toni Kroos called time on his playing career.

The 34-year-old, who has enjoyed a prestigious career, was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year for 2024 with 285 votes, ahead of Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen, 246 votes) and Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen, 66 votes). 751 members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS) casted their votes, with Xabi Alonso named Coach of the Year, while Footballer of the Year will be named after the Olympics.
