Tom Aspinall Reveals One Reason He’s Happy Jon Jones Fight is Delayed

Although UFC president Dana White has publicly reaffirmed his confidence several times that the huge heavyweight showdown between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will take place in 2025, fans are slowly losing patience with the UFC, as it seems that a deal for the fight to be made is still far from being completed, meaning that we may not get to see the fight until probably November at the very earliest.

The Brit, Aspinall, has been expressing his frustrations for many months about not being able to fight, given the fact that he is holding the interim UFC heavyweight title and, due to Jones’ inactivity, he is being kept on the sidelines, essentially waiting for the 37-year-old to sign the contract, which is wasting valuable time in Aspinall’s career as he could and should be fighting and making money.

Although Aspinall has been very open about his frustrations regarding how long it is taking for the fight against Jones to be made, in a recent video which was uploaded to his YouTube channel, the Brit admitted that it is “probably a good thing” that the fight hasn’t been made yet as he has been dealing with something which has been affecting his training.

Tom Aspinall has Been Battling Illness Since the Turn of the Year

The Brit is looking at the positives that the fight against ‘Bones’ hasn’t been made yet

Despite publicly expressing his frustrations around his fight against Jon Jones not being fully completed yet, interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has revealed that he has been battling against a virus since late 2024, which has made him quite thankful that his bout against ‘Bones’ hasn’t materialised yet as he hasn’t been at 100 percent. The Brit went into detail about his recent health struggles in a new video uploaded to his YouTube channel and revealed he has been battling a virus, as well as ringworm and a few skin infections.

“This year, I’ve actually been ill more times than I ever have in my life, and we are in April. I got a virus before Christmas, and basically, I’ve had it on and off since.

Usually, I’ll get ill once a year, if that, with a head cold or whatever. But I’ve been really ill, bed-bound a couple of times. I’ve had ringworm quite a few times and other minor skin infections.

Looking back, it’s probably a good job I haven’t been active because I haven’t been functioning at 100 percent for a while. We finally have some results in on why that is.”

Although Aspinall is coming up to almost a year since his last fight in the UFC, it is probably a good thing that his fight against Jones hasn’t been booked yet, as facing the MMA GOAT when you are not fully fit and in fighting shape is not what you want to do. It is still quite unclear as to when and where the huge heavyweight showdown will take place, but all signs seem to be pointing towards November in New York at Madison Square Garden, as it is Jones’ home state and it will probably be his final ever fight.
