After being kept out for 15 months, Tom Aspinall returned to the Octagon at UFC 321 in October, and it couldn’t have really gone much worse.
The Brit’s fight against Ciryl Gane lasted just over four and a half minutes, but it wasn’t due to one of his trademark quick KOs. Instead, he was on the end of a brutal double eye poke, which rendered him unable to continue in the fight.
Gane gauged Aspinall knuckle deep in both of his eyes, and because the undisputed heavyweight champion couldn’t continue, the fight was declared a no-contest due to an accidental foul.
Tom Aspinall ‘Couldn’t See’ After UFC 321 Eye Poke
Although the replays and slow-motion shots clearly showed just how brutal the double eye poke was, Aspinall faced plenty of accusations from fans on social media that he overexaggerated the pain he was in. This is because, for the first time in his UFC career, he was most likely losing the fight and facing huge adversity.
His post-fight blog, which he uploaded to his YouTube channel, attracted further criticism. Aspinall documented his experience at the hospital, where doctors didn’t give him a clear diagnosis. Over one month on from the fight, Aspinall now has that official diagnosis on the damage done to his eye and has released the official medical report on social media.
Tom Aspinall Releases Official Medical Report on Eye Injury Suffered At UFC 321
It has been officially confirmed by doctors that the 32-year-old suffered multiple serious injuries to his eye following the anti-climactic finish to his fight against Gane at Etihad Arena.
Aspinall broke his silence over the injury by taking to social media to upload his official medical report, which was provided after undergoing plenty of tests and evaluations. In the report, which you can see below, it has been confirmed that the Brit suffered orbital soft tissue trauma, a possible fracture of the right medial orbital wall and has also been diagnosed with bilateral traumatic brown’s syndrome.
After silencing the doubters by sharing his official medical report, Aspinall made light of his situation by posting a picture of himself wearing a pair of goggles whilst teasing a rematch with the Frenchman, with the message: “Coming to get my revenge on the big cheater.”
