New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly can save up to £14million on primary defensive target Jules Kounde this summer with Sevilla desperate to sell the defender to the extent whereby they will now accept offers under his release clause and his current market value.
It has been known for a very long time that the Les Bleus international was to be destined for a Stamford Bridge switch. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old was denied this possibility last summer but the same situation doesn’t look like unfolding itself once again this time round. This is despite the Andalusian’s, ran by well-known sporting director Monchi, already generating significant funds this summer from the sale of Kounde’s defensive partner over the last few seasons, Diego Carlos, who decided to snub Newcastle United to join Steven Gerrard’s project in the West Midlands.
football.london understands that despite all the speculation, no official talks have been opened yet directly between Chelsea and Sevilla but it is still a deal that is expected to be quickly concluded between the two parties once the transfer window officially opens on June 10.

However, a day on from Sevilla’s ‘goodbye’ message that they had been preparing for Kounde for a while now whilst their replacement search steps up, local media in Southern Spain have indicated that the La Liga outfit are inadvertently pushing their number 23 out of the door immediately with the stance they have taken which will allow Boehly to capitalise.
According to Diario de Sevilla via Sport Witness, who have added context to Julen Lopetegui’s centre-back search and the importance of that needing to be concluded before they give Chelsea the green light to make an official offer, they also report that €60 (£51m) is all they are asking for which is a huge drop in the goalposts they moved last year, to the annoyance of outgoing director Marina Granovskaia at the time.
£51m in the modern market for a player highly admired by La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona would be a real smart signing and one that could set the precedent for what is to come in the Boehly era which is expected to follow a very different course to the way Roman Abramovich did things during his successful but ruthless 19 years in charge.
One reason why this acquisition alongside the purchase of another top centre-half would be a smart signing, with Inter duo Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni the latest to be linked, is due to the fact that the Blues would be defying the odds and signing a top calibre player under their market value in a summer which could see £200m spent on a defensive rebuild.
The CIES Football Observatory had put a current market value of around £65m attached to the 5ft 8in defender in their latest release, so this new update from the Spanish media will be music to the ears of Boehly who could potentially be on track to save £14m if face-to-face negotiations were to follow in such a predicted way.
