Today in Football – Things You May Have Missed

Football never sleeps. During any of the 86400 seconds in a 24-hour day, somewhere in the world someone is doing something related to the beautiful game, whether that’s scoring a last-minute winner in a high-profile match, posting their expert take on social media or simply booting a ball against a wall with their mates.

It’s therefore impossible for any human being to keep up with everything that’s going on in the game, and it’s often those little yet most intriguing moments, like a fan’s alternative viewpoint of a penalty save, or a three-second yet incredibly telling interaction between two arch-rivals, or thread on X explaining why N’Golo Kante is the nicest man in professional sport, which make football so great.

GIVEMESPORT have created our live blog to help solve that problem, providing the best social media has to offer and the greatest football mini-stories from the last 24 hours.

November 8: Luiz Diaz Scores Outrageous Goal vs Union Berlin

Luis Diaz scored a quite incredible goal in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash with Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon. The Bavarian giants fell behind in the 27th minute when Danilho Doekhi found the back of the net.

Bayern restored parity 10 minutes later courtesy of Diaz’s brilliance. The Colombian winger did incredibly well to stop the ball out of play before cleverly nudging the ball past his opponent. He then decided to take an audacious shot at goal from the byline which somehow found its way past Frederik Ronnow and hit the back of the net.

Diaz has been a revelation for the Bundesliga giants and his latest piece of brilliance explains why they decided to splash out £65.5m for his services this summer.

November 4: Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool Mural Defaced

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool mural has been defaced, just hours before the Reds’ Champions League clash against Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold left his boyhood club in the summer on a free transfer and was booed by supporters at Anfield prior to his departure.

Images posted to X (Twitter) show the mural has been defaced with white paint, while the words “Rat” and “Adios El Rata” have been written next to the drawing of Trent wearing his old No. 66 Liverpool shirt. It was recently revealed that the full-back had been learning Spanish for several months prior to his announcement that he would not be signing a new contract with the Merseyside outfit.

November 2: Peter Crouch Reacts To Erling Haaland’s Robot Celebration

Football funny man Peter Crouch could not help but respond after seeing Erling Haaland do his own version of the robot when celebrating his opening goal in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth. The striker bagged a brace in the Premier League game, and caught the eye with his dance moves.

In the mid-2000s, Crouch was known for his robot celebration, pulling it out when scoring goals for the likes of England and Liverpool. Naturally, Haaland’s antics caught Crouch’s eyes and he took to social media to offer his thoughts on it all, joking:

“I walked so they could run.”

November 1: Man Utd Fan Refusing to Cut His Hair Instantly Responds to Forest Draw

Ruben Amorim

Frank Ilett, the Manchester United fan who has promised not to get his hair cut until Manchester United win five games in a row, has responded after his side drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest. The Red Devils were on a three-game winning streak, but that came to an end this weekend.

Casemiro opened the scoring for United, but the home side struck back with two goals in two minutes. Morgan Gibbs-White hit first on 48 minutes, before Nicolo Savona’s strike put them ahead on 50 minutes. In the end, Amad Diallo rescued a point, but that’s no good to Ilett, who runs the social media account The United Strand.

He has not cut his hair since October 2024 and will have to wait some time longer before he can finally go to the barbers. Following the draw, it didn’t take long for Ilett to respond. He took to Instagram, posting a graphic of the full-time result with the words:

October 29: Crystal Palace Poke Fun at Liverpool After Carabao Cup Thrashing

Liverpool suffered a sixth defeat in their last seven competitive outings. Pressure mounts on Arne Slot, who has seen his side lose all confidence in recent weeks, in a nightmare run that started with a 2-1 defeat vs Crystal Palace in September.

The Eagles got one over the Merseysiders once again, this time at Anfield. A 3-0 thrashing saw Ismaila Sarr net twice before Yeremy Pino put the icing on the cake. Palace’s X admin couldn’t help but poke fun at the Premier League champions, posting: “Liverpool again. W again.”

October 26: Brentford Savage Arne Slot After 3-2 Win vs Liverpool

liverpool arne slot

Liverpool lost their fourth consecutive Premier League game on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten by Brentford.

Last week, after losing to Manchester United, Arne Slot noted that teams were changing their lineups when facing Liverpool. He said: “We’ve seen [Benjamin] Sesko play the last three, four, five or six times, but they [Manchester United] go to Liverpool they change the line-up. That’s not the first time where we’ve faced a team and they’ve done that.”

Brentford did not change their lineup for the game against Liverpool, though, as Mark Andrews stuck with the same team that beat West Ham on Monday. Despite Brentford not changing anything, Liverpool still ended up on the losing side.

The Bees took the chance to mock Slot for his comments after the match. Their official X account posted following the win: “Must have been that unchanged team.”

October 23: Michael Owen’s Reacton to Every Goal in Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

Michael Owen played for both Liverpool and Manchester United in his career. He came through the ranks at the Reds, before joining their bitter rivals, Man Utd, later in his career, where he won a Premier League trophy. But which team does he support?

The 45-year-old was on punditry duty for the game and his reaction to every goal during last weekend’s clash between the two sides at Anfield has emerged. View the footage above.

Owen made it clear where his loyalties lie as he was enthusiastic when Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool, while he showed little to no emotion for both Bryan Mbuemo and Harry Maguire’s goals.

October 19: English Match Abandoned After Brawl Involving Fans and Players

A non-league football match between Avro and Kidsgrove Athletic was abandoned today after a shocking fight between fans and players in the second half. The match was halted in the 84th minute, with Avro leading 6-0 against nine-man Kidsgrove, after a brawl broke out.

As the footage above shows, players charged into the stands and can be seen scrapping with the supporters. In one clip, a goalkeeper appears to land a punch right in the face of a fan. Both clubs have now spoken out, condemning the incident.

In a statement, Avro said: “We as a club are appalled with the behaviour of some of the fans, players and officials of Kidsgrove Athletic.” They added: “The incident followed the dismissal of one of the Kidsgrove management team who wasn’t on the field of play.”

Kidsgrove Athletic also said in their statement:

“As a club, we do not condone any form of inappropriate behaviour. We remain committed to upholding the values of respect and sportsmanship both on and off the pitch. No further statement will be made until the investigation is complete.”

October 18: Jobe Bellingham Savaged by Fans After ‘Awful Mistake’ against Bayern Munich

Life at Borussia Dortmund went from bad to worse for Jobe Bellingham on Saturday evening, as the former Sunderland midfielder effectively assisted Bayern Munich’s winning goal in the 78th minute. As a ball was played across the box, the 20-year-old miscontrolled it and fell over, gifting Michael Olise an easy tap-in as the Bundesliga leaders maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign.

Dealing with his parents’ divorce and the heavy expectations of following in his older brother’s footsteps has clearly taken its toll on Jobe at the start of the 2025/26 season. Reacting to his latest horror moment, one X user wrote: “This guy’s so bad,” while another added: “It’s looking TOUGH out there for him,” and a third remarked: “That was so bad it should go down as an own goal!”

A fourth comment summed up his time in Germany so far perfectly, concluding: “This is awful. kid’s gonna have to learn the hard way,” as he has now gone 10 games without registering a goal or assist.

October 12: Michail Antonio’s Crashed Ferrari Put Up For Sale

Michail Antonio’s crashed Ferrari was put up for sale online, only months after he miraculously survived a horror crash. The former West Ham striker, 34, was trapped inside the vehicle for 45 minutes, with a broken leg after hitting a tree, having careened off the road last December.

Thankfully, the Jamaican international survived but the £260,000 car was left in a mangled state. Per the Sun, the Ferrari Lusso has been put up for sale at a much discounted price.

Made available by an independent trader for “spares or repairs”, bidding was to start at £44,995, with the advert reading: “Unrecovered salvage damage. No insurance claim made.”

Antonio has since spoken about now driving a people carrier: “I’ve always been a fan of sports cars and old classics. “But sports cars are not my friends. “Now I have a people carrier and I’m staying far away from sports cars.”
