Barcelona have gone through a campaign of mixed emotions as they rode the up and downs and managed to earn a strong second-place finish in La Liga. However, the Catalan giants had a tough time in Europe as they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stages. Barca even failed to impress in the Europa League, eventually losing in the quarterfinal stage of the competition at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt over two legs.

Despite some clever recruitment last January, Xavi knows that his rebuilding job is far from over. Here are three positions that Barca should try to strengthen during this summer transfer period.

Right-Back

Bringing Dani Alves as a free agent last year was never going to be a long-term fix to Xavi’s right-back concerns. At the age of 38, the Brazilian talent did well to put in a few impressive displays this year but is now set to leave on a free transfer once again this summer.

Hence, the Catalan outfit should think about doing everything they can to sign a proven option for the right-back position.

Winger

Adama Traore’s current loan spell at the Nou Camp has been underwhelming, to say the least. He has failed to find the cutting edge in the final third, so it would be a surprise if Xavi brings him back again next season.

Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele have also had their fair share of injury problems over the past few years. Thus, a winger should be at the top of Barca’s wishlist for this summer transfer window.

Centre-Forward

Memphis Depay, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres have carried a lot of the goal-scoring burden for the Spanish outfit over the past few months. However, it is only logical for Xavi to add more competition for them as Luuk de Jong is simply not good enough to push them for a regular starting spot at the Catalan club.

A quality addition to their attack this summer could propel Barca towards challenging for top honours once again in the coming seasons.
