Speaking at a press conference during Bayern Munich’s winter training camp in Qatar, Thomas Müller revealed that he will not retire from the national team.
After Germany’s elimination from the World Cup Müller said how it was maybe his last game for Germany, but he has now clarified the situation: “I was emotional after the game, it was a sad moment. I thought about it and exchanged ideas with Hansi Flick. As long as I’m a professional footballer, I’ll always be available for the national team” He added: “The coach has to decide when, if and how. The goal is to be successful again. Hansi has many options in attack. I’m very relaxed, but will absolutely be there when the coach needs me.”
Müller played in all three of Germany’s group games at the World Cup but was deployed as a striker and was ineffective in all three games. Before the opening game against Japan, Müller had not played a game of football for over a month coming off the bench for Bayern against Barcelona in the Champions League.
When Euro 2024 comes around Müller will be 34. This season he has played less football then usual due to suffering from several injuries this season playing eight games for Bayern in the league. The rise of Jamal Musiala has also contributed to this and the reason he had to be played as a striker in Qatar.
