RB Leipzig were beaten 3-1 by Bayer Leverkusen in the Red Bull Arena thanks to goals from Patrick Schick, Martin Terrier and Montrell Culbreath.

Despite taking the lead through Xaver Schlager, the hosts went into half-time 2-1 and had decisions in the second half go against them.

However, according to RB Leipzig coach Ole Werner, the referee got “two game deciding decisions wrong”.

Notably, the referee opted against giving Arthur a second yellow card in the 70th minute for a challenge.

On this, Leipzig coach Werner said: “The referee said he did not catch him at that point of the leg. It was knee on knee, of course he catches him square on the leg.”

Also, VAR ruled against a penalty in extra time for Leipzig as they reviewed a situation where Robert Andrich has an aerial challenge with Willi Orban in the Leverkusen box.

Regarding this, Werner said: “For me, he jumps into Orban. Orban is just standing there and not making a stride into Andrich. Andrich raises his arm up above the head, the arm is above the head.”

Despite this, Ole Werner noted that despite this Leipzig played a good second half.

In the new year, RB Leipzig are set to return to Bundesliga action away at St. Pauli.
