‘The new Busquets’ – Barcelona boss Flick urges club to back youngster ‘no matter what’

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has made clear to those in a position of power at the club his unrelenting belief in one up-and-coming member of the club’s midfield ranks.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Marc Bernal as the player in question.

Youngster Bernal is of course fresh off something of a whirlwind opening to the new campaign.

After breaking into the first-team setup of new boss Hansi Flick in pre-season, the Spaniard, at just 17, went on to secure a starting berth in each of the Blaugrana’s first three La Liga outings.

In turn, it came as a blow for all associated with the club when, in the closing stages of a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano, Bernal was forced off with what was later confirmed to be an ACL tear.

The starlet is facing up to an extended spell on the sidelines as a result.

Evidently, though, Bernal had already done more than enough to convince his new manager of his place in his plans for the long-term.

As per a report from Sport, Hansi Flick has pumped the brakes on the potential signing of a new deep-lying midfielder at Barcelona.

This comes chiefly owing to his complete and total faith in Bernal’s talents:

‘Flick is convinced Bernal can mark an era and he must be backed no matter what. It is true that the serious injury he suffered at the start of the season has slowed down his progress, but the club’s coaches see Bernal as the new Busquets.’
