Real Madrid fans were angry at the prospect of going into the season with Joselu as the only number nine in the squad, and no one could have blamed them.
The truth however is that the Spaniard has been an important cog in the team, and his importance to Carlo Ancelotti seems to be growing. He started the season on the bench, playing a combined 19 minutes against Athletic Club and Almería in the first two league games.
Since then though he has found himself starting more often than not. With Vinícius sidelined he has seen more action for the Santiago Bernabéu side. The Spain international was a substitute in the disappointment defeat to Atlético Madrid on Sunday, but he was the first man to come on for Ancelotti as soon as halftime came.
In Wednesday’s league win over Las Palmas, there was another start for the 33-year-old and another goal. He now has three goals in three starts for Los Blancos, and if he carries on like this the experienced No 9 could finish the season with at least 15 goals.
