Wolfsburg

Because of the Micky van de Ven and Felix Nmecha sales, Wolfsburg were able to spend over €70 million in the transfer market this summer. They notably brought on Lovro Majer, Joakim Maehle, and former Schalke defender Moritz Jenz.

The green company club somehow missed out on European football last season in dramatic fashion on the final matchday. That’s undoubtedly the goal for this season, in which Niko Kovac must produce.

When asked about Majer, their top signing, Kovac commented, “Lovro is very strong on the ball and has many good and creative ideas. He has a big impact in the midfield. He is a player who demands the ball, wants to take responsibility, and is also variable. And he has a very good left foot.”

Wolfsburg will likely be without Sebastiaan Bornauw, Kilian Fischer, Felix Lange, and Kevin Paredes. Lukas Nmecha also can’t play after suffering an injury in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

Heidenheim

It will be a historic Saturday afternoon up north for Heidenheim in their first-ever Bundesliga contest. It’s been an incredible rise for Frank Schmidt and his boys in what will undoubtedly be an extremely emotional affair.

Heidenheim were luckily able to keep most of their star players from last season’s run to the top of the 2. Bundesliga. Tim Kleindienst should lead the team in scoring and Jan-Niklas Beste was one of their best players in the second half of last season.

Schmidt, who’s coached the club since 2007, stated, “Of course, there is only one first game in the Bundesliga. This is Saturday in Wolfsburg and the anticipation is very great. But, I am sure that the joy will not subside and will also be huge in the following games.”
