He was expected to be in the offing for a surprise return to the France National team after impressing with Olympique Lyonnais this season, but Didier Deschamps opted against calling up Corentin Tolisso (30) for Les Bleus’ double-header at the end of March against Croatia in the Nations League quarter-finals.
Speaking at a press conference at the French Football Federation’s Paris headquarters, Deschamps justified his choice to snub the in-form Lyon midfielder. “I’m happy for him, for his club too, but above all for him. I’m very fond of him but there are players in the current squad who have stepped up,” said Deschamps. The Frenchman did reveal however that Tolisso is back on his ‘shortlist’ and has been under consideration to make the France squad.
“The door is not closed. He’s back on the shortlist after being out for a while. I don’t need articles or overtures to know that he has a profound attachment to the France national team.”
