Sport Bild reports that the current trend is that Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck will extend his contract at the club.
Before Schlotterbeck suffered a meniscus injury, which will keep him out for the rest of the season, there were several talks about extending his contract at the club. The clear signal is that he will extend his contract at the club until 2030.
The 25-year-old is also expected to receive a salary increase of up to €10m. But the extension has yet to be signed as Schlotterbeck wants to focus on his rehabilitation before he signs.
It was previously reported that Dortmund want to make Schlotterbeck the face of the club, and the five-year extension is a big step in that direction. The next step would be to give him the captaincy.
Earlier this week, Sky Germany reported that Schlotterbeck had spoken to Newcastle United, while PSG and Liverpool had also shown interest in him. However, he is leaning towards staying at Dortmund, as shown by his commitment.
