Miguel Angel Ramirez, Sporting Gijon‘s coach, made some ‘controversial’ statements in the press conference after his team won 3-0 against Mirandes in LaLiga Hypermotion.
The comparison for which he later apologised
“In the end, goals are like girls at a nightclub… the closer you get, the more they move away. And then, when you don’t give them a chance, they touch you from behind and say ‘hey, what’s up’. It’s the same with a goal,” said Ramirez, trying to explain Djurdjevic‘s lack of goalsuntil he scored the Asturian team’s second.
“When you get obsessed… they go away. When you are focused on other things… they appear. And they did,” said the Sporting coach.
Hours later he apologised on social media: “Last night I was unfortunate in the comparison I used to talk about our relationship with goals. It has nothing to do with my way of understanding life and my values. I apologise for that,” said Miguel Angel Ramirez.
Sporting coach Ramirez congratulates Spain on winning the women’s World Cup
At the start of his press conference Miguel Angel Ramirez did not hesitate to congratulate the Spanish national team on their historic victory in the Women’s World Cup: “Before I start, I would like to congratulate Spanish women’s football. It is something incredible, it has been a gift to inspire many girls to play football.”
