In a successful evening for the German national team, the returning Leroy Sané had many eyes on him: how would he play for his country after being left out in the previous games?

In an interview after the 2-0 victory, Sané expressed his joy at being back in the setup, saying he is “really happy to be here again” and that representing his country will always be an honour. He added that he was pleased to contribute with an assist, noting that it felt good to give something back for the trust Julian Nagelsmann has placed in him.

He described his relationship with Nagelsmann as strong and open, explaining that they talk often. “Julian and I have a good understanding,” he said. “What he tells me also applies to the whole team: there’s a World Cup coming up, and everyone needs to push themselves to get the best out of this group.”

Sané emphasised that performing at a high level requires full focus: if he stays concentrated and delivers on the pitch, he believes he can earn his place in the national team. He also spoke about Nagelsmann’s leadership style, saying the coach knows exactly how to deal with him – “with love and with toughness” – and that he trusts Nagelsmann to strike the right balance.

Looking ahead, Sané made clear that his ambitions go beyond this camp. He wants to remain a key part of the squad and knows that earning that spot requires consistent effort. “I’ll keep pushing – here and at my club – to prove myself and secure my place in this team,” he said.
