The battle of the unbeaten sides.

Level on 10 points and unbeaten this term, Union Berlin and Bayern Munich will face off on Saturday with the winner set to head to the top of the Bundesliga table.

Union Berlin

Union have started the season in fine form, winning three and drawing one of their opening four Bundesliga games.
They began the campaign with a 3-1 home win over their city rivals Hertha BSC before playing out a goalless draw with Mainz.

Urs Fischer’s side returned to winning ways against RB Leipzig, while they recorded their biggest ever Bundesliga victory last weekend when they played host to Schalke.

Union were pegged back by Marius Bülter after Morten Thorsby opened the scoring, but goals from Sheraldo Becker and Janik Haberer ensured the hosts took a 3-1 lead into half. Becker grabbed his second goal of the game after the restart before Sven Michel netted a late brace to wrap up a historic 6-1 victory.

Including last season, Union are now unbeaten in their last 11 Bundesliga games, while they have avoided defeat in all of their previous eight home league matches.

Saturday’s hosts will now turn their attention to the meeting with Bayern, where a win would see them move to the top of the Bundesliga table.

Union have no new injury concerns for Saturday’s encounter, although they are still without the services of Timo Baumgartl and Diogo Leite.

Bayern Munich

Bayern are unbeaten in their six competitive matches this season, with their four league games yielding 10 points.

After winning their first three league matches by a combined 15-1 scoreline, the Bavarians dropped points for the first time this term last weekend against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Marcus Thuram gave Gladbach the lead in the first half and a superb performance from Yann Sommer helped keep Bayern at bay until Leroy Sane grabbed an equaliser in the 83rd minute.

The Bavarians followed their 1-1 draw with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Viktoria Köln in the first-round of the DFB-Pokal thanks to goals from Ryan Gravenberch, Mathys Tel, Sadio Mané, Jamal Musiala and Leon Goretzka.

After progressing to the second-round of the Pokal, Bayern will turn their attention back to league action where they will look to extend their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to seven games.

Having scored 13 goals across their two away league matches this term, Bayern will be confident of claiming all three points on Saturday.

Julian Nagelsmann has stated that players that were not involved in the cup game will return for the trip to Berlin. However, the Bundesliga champions will be without the services of Tel and Bouna Sarr due to injury issues.
