Terzic and Schlotterbeck discuss latest BVB league disappointment

After their fifth draw of the season left them in a woeful position in the race for the top-four, Borussia Dortmund trainer Edin Terzic and defender Nico Schlotterbeck acknowledged that their team needed to do better in their respective post-match interviews. 

A 1-1 draw against hosting Augsburg on Saturday meant that Borussia Dortmund have now failed to win eight matches through 15 rounds in the current Bundesliga campaign. Seven wins, five draws, and three losses leave Dortmund four points out of the top-four and 13 points clear of the top. Matters could get worse before the weekend is out, with Stuttgart, Bayern, and Leverkusen yet to play their Sunday fixtures.

“The result is definitely not good enough,” BVB trainer Edin Terzic told the Sky microphones afterwards, “We lacked composure on the final passes and finishes. There was a scene where we took the ball off each other’s heads at a free-kick and the better-positioned player was passed over. Those are the little moments that come together and explain the result.”

“The situation hasn’t improved of course,” Terzic admitted when asked about the race for the top-four, “We tried everything we could to get the win. I don’t blame the lads for that. It just wasn’t enough. The legs are heavy and the heads are strained. We’ll try to keep rising to the occasion.”

Just as his colleague Mats Hummels did last week, BVB defender Nico Schlotterbeck was quick to take responsibility for his role in the latest disappointing result. Schlotterbeck stumbled whilst attempting to mark FCA attacker Ermedin Demirovic on the opening goal. The scene was reviewed by match official Matthias Jöllenbeck after replays confirmed both Demirovic and Schlotterbeck were hassling one another.

Schlotterbeck accepted that the foul wasn’t given.

“That’s totally normal,” Schlotterbeck said of the scene, “I have to handle it better. It’s on me. You can look at that goal as one I’m responsible for. Football-wise we’re doing okay, but can’t get the points at the moment. We should have played a few situations out better.”

Terzic also answered questions about the status of his job.

“I can’t control the talk,” Terzic said, “I can influence how I deal with it. I’m someone who likes to lead the way and take responsibility. I have no problem with what people think about me. What matters to me is what the team and the people with whom I work think about me. They give me a good feeling.”
