Tedesco reveals he turned down Bundesliga clubs, reflects on Leipzig sacking

Speaking to Kicker, Domenico Tedesco reveals he turned down interest from the Bundesliga before becoming Belgium coach and explains what led to his sacking at RB Leipzig.

Domenico Tedesco has revealed that he turned down other offers, including from Bundesliga clubs, before recently accepting the job as Belgium coach.

“There were offers and also some discussions, but in the end everything has to fit and I have to have the feeling that things can go uphill quickly. I didn’t have that feeling,” Tedesco told Kicker.

Tedesco was last in charge of RB Leipzig between December 2021 and September 2022. In the interview, he also explained how his dismissal came about.

“Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way we all wanted. We had already noticed during the summer break that we did not see eye to eye on some issues,” the 37-year-old said, adding:

“We noticed, for example, that there were discrepancies on one or two transfer issues in the summer. That’s perfectly fine and not unusual, but I told the club that I wanted to wait a little longer before extending my contract.

“When we started the season with two draws, things quickly got uncomfortable and reached a point where there was no turning back. It’s in the past now, but I still look back on that time in a very positive way,” noted Tedesco.
