Following the sacking of Nuri Sahin as head coach, Borussia Dortmund’s U19 coach, Mike Tullberg, was handed the reins for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen.
Although they were reduced to 10 men early when Nico Schlotterbeck saw red, The Black and Yellows went 2-0 up, but were eventually forced to settle for a 2-2 draw as Werder fought back.
Despite squandering the lead, Dortmund’s performance gave cause for optimism and Tullberg will be in charge again on Wednesday, with the hope of getting a win this time.
Dortmund, in 14th place with 12 points, are guaranteed a place in the play-offs, but must pick up three points to have any chance of finishing in the top eight and progressing directly to the round of 16.
Shakhtar kept their slim hopes of a play-off spot alive when they beat Brest 2-0 last week, but they need a win over Dortmund and plenty of other results to go their way if they are to stay in the tournament.
Felix Nmecha (knee) and Niklas Süle (ankle) are out for Borussia Dortmund, while Shakhtar have no injury concerns heading into the game.
