SV Elversberg
There have been slight signs of inconsistency in recent weeks – two wins from their last five outings – but SV Elversberg’s impressive early-season form has afforded them valuable breathing space in an increasingly congested promotion race.
Vincent Wagner’s side sit third in the table, just two points shy of top spot, with the standings shifting almost weekly in what has turned into another enthralling 2. Bundesliga campaign.
Elversberg showed both character and resilience last weekend, overturning a half-time deficit to secure a 2-1 victory away at Dynamo Dresden. Second-half goals from Nicholas Mickelson and Lukas Petkov ensured a swift response to the previous week’s home setback and reaffirmed their promotion credentials.
Despite Braunschweig’s position in the lower half of the table, Wagner is under no illusions about the challenge ahead:
“Heiner Backhaus has once again managed to ensure his team remains a close-knit unit. We’re facing an opponent who will definitely demand everything from us. But we’re looking forward to the match and to playing at the Kaiserlinde stadium.”
Elversberg cruised to a 4-1 win in the reverse fixture back in September. However, they will be keen to improve their home record, having won just one of their last five matches at the URSAPHARM Arena.
Team news:
Barring any late setbacks, Wagner has a full squad available for selection.
Predicted lineup (4-2-3-1):
Kristof (GK) – Keidel, Pinckert, Le Joncour, Mickelson – Poreba, Condé – Petkov, Conté, Zimmerschied – Mokwa
Eintracht Braunschweig
Eintracht Braunschweig have shown tangible signs of progress in recent months, gradually finding a rhythm under Heiner Backhaus. While there is still work to be done, particularly in the tightly packed lower half of the table, performances have improved.
Die Löwen currently sit 13th, just two points above the relegation play-off place – a reminder that every point remains vital.
Their most recent outing showcased their development and their lingering fragility. Braunschweig surged into a 2-0 half-time lead against promotion hopefuls Darmstadt, only to concede twice after the interval in a game that ultimately felt like two points dropped.
Backhaus knows his side must be close to perfect this weekend:
“You have to be really sharp and precise in all phases of the game, especially when you don’t have the ball. It’s about knowing exactly which foot to press whom. It all has to be second nature. We need 700 Braunschweig fans behind us, then it’s possible to take the wind out of Elversberg’s sails.”
Braunschweig have managed just one win from their last five away fixtures and have yet to record a victory in Elversberg.
Team news:
Lino Tempelmann and Fredrik Jäkel remain sidelined, while Mehmet Aydin is suspended.
Predicted lineup (3-4-2-1):
Hoffmann (GK) – Ehlers, Nkoa, Frenkert – Gomez, Heußer, Marie, Bell Bell – Mijatović, Opoku – Yardımcı
