At the start of last season, Stuttgart signed Anthony Rouault for only €3 million after he guided Toulouse to a Coupe de France triumph. Fast forward to 18 months later, the Bundesliga outfit received an offer in the range of €15 million from Stade Rennais.
After rejecting the initial bid, Stuttgart finally agreed on the deal, and they’re currently looking for a replacement. Rennes were on the race for Kevin Danso’s signature before losing out on the former Augsburg defender to Tottenham Hotspur.
Rouault initially struggled for game time in Stuttgart as he only made five league starts in the Hinrunde. He eventually ended his debut season with 22 Bundesliga appearances for Sebastian Hoeneß’s overachieving side.
Despite nursuring a shoulder injury at the start of the current campaign, Rouault won his place since his solid showing in a 5-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. In total, he made 28 appearances in all competitions this season.
