Stuttgart closing in on new striker

By Jonathan Dicks

Per Sky Germany, VfB Stuttgart are nearing a deal to sign FC Midtjylland forward Luca Pfeiffer, who played on loan at Darmstadt last season.

25-year-old Luca Pfeiffer excelled during his loan spell in the 2. Bundesliga last year, totaling 17 goals in 32 games for Darmstadt. After returning to his parent club in Denmark, Pfeiffer is closing in on a return to Germany with a deal that could become official within the next couple of days.

At 6′ 5″, Pfeiffer shares similar physical attributes with star striker Saša Kalajdžić, who nearly every day is linked with a move away. Stuttgart would bring Pfeiffer in as a like-for-like replacement for Kalajdžić, as the Austrian is bound to leave the club for a decent fee.

After exploding onto the scene last season in the second division, Stuttgart will be forced to pay a couple million euros for Pfeiffer’s services. FC Köln already had an offer rejected for the striker, so Die Roten will need to act fast to get this deal through the door.
