Streich hits out at Sallai’s father

Christian Streich has hit out at Roland Sallai’s father for suggesting the Freiburg attacker is getting less playing time because he’s looking to leave the club.

SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich has directed criticism at Roland Sallai’s father, saying “we have the parents we have”.

Sallai’s father recently told Hungarian newspaper Metropol that his son is set to join Lazio, claiming that’s why the 25-year-old winger hasn’t received much playing time of late. Streich, however, strongly denied the allegations.

“Every child has guardians and no child can do anything about it. There is nothing we can do. We have the parents we have,” Streich said at the press conference ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga home game against Hertha BSC.

“Roland has been completely left out of the story, the poor guy. It is brutally hard for him. Such statements totally damage him, such twisted stuff,” Streich said, adding that he wants to support Sallai because he’s under “a lot of pressure from the outside.

“He has to make sure he has a clear head when he plays for us.”

Streich added that he has “talked to him a lot, but it’s not easy” because the 25-year-old is “a bit emotional”.
