It was perhaps inevitable that former Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, would eventually look closer to home for some signings at his current club, Al Ettifaq.
Having already landed Jordan Henderson in a surprise move during the summer transfer window, Gerrard is, apparently, scouting for another England international on Merseyside.
Al Ettifaq find themselves in seventh place in the Saudi Pro League at present, already nine points behind leaders, Al Hilal.
Any motivation and lift that supporters may give them was distinctly missing this past weekend, as the Daily Mirror noted that only 696 supporters were in attendance for their loss against Al Riyadh.

For a player to willingly come to play in that sort of environment rather than the Premier League can only be about the money. Any proclamation to the contrary will surely be dismissed by savvy supporters.
Gerrard, according to Football Insider sources, wants to bring Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the SPL.
It isn’t known at this stage if the injury-plagued front man would be open to such a switch, though the report states that the Toffees have no intention of letting the striker go.
A stalled takeover with 777 Partners may mean they have little choice in the end, as it would appear that the club are sinking in debt and only a takeover will be able to bring things back to something approaching an even keel.
