Bayern Munich have registered their interest in Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega amid their search for a new goalkeeper, reports German journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Bavarians are keen on landing a new keeper before the end of the transfer window following Yann Sommer’s move to Inter Milan and the delayed recovery of Manuel Neuer.
Despite having Sven Ulreich at his disposal, Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing a top-class shot-stopper to the Allianz Arena.
However, Bayern’s pursuit of a new keeper has been futile so far after missing out on targets like David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with the latter recently completing his loan move from Chelsea to Real Madrid.
Ortega is the latest name to emerge on Bayern’s wishlist, and the Bundesliga champions have held talks with the player’s entourage over a possible move.
The 30-year-old moved to the Etihad Stadium last summer as an understudy to Ederson and featured in last season’s FA Cup final against Manchester United, which Man City won 2-1.
The German keeper’s contract with the Sky Blues expires in the summer of 2025, but Pep Guardiola wants to extend his stay beyond that after being impressed with his development.
Plettenberg adds that the final decision rests with Ortega on whether or not to accept Bayern’s offer.
Bayern are also monitoring Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, but their price tags are proving to be a stumbling block, with the German giants already coughing up more than €100 million for Harry Kane.

The Bavarians seemed ready to welcome Ajax keeper Geronimo Ruli, but his recent injury setback has seen the deal collapse.
One of the major reasons that is impeding Bayern’s progress to land a new keeper is the presence of Neuer.
The Bavarians have made it clear that the legendary German shot-stopper will regain his starting spot once he returns to action, and hence the keeper targets are refusing to be a stop-gap signing.
