Stefan Bajcetic learning from Thiago Alcántara at Liverpool

Stefan Bajcetic made his first Premier League start for Liverpool in last weekend’s goalless draw at home to Chelsea in the Premier League.

The Spanish-born teenager admits his rapid rise into Jurgen Klopp’s team has surprised him.

“I’m a little bit surprised to be fair. Last season I was playing U18s,” Bajcetic said in quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo.

“But I’ve tried to improve and tried to impress here, and if I get an opportunity, I try to take it.

“It (starting against Chelsea) gives me massive confidence. I’ve been training hard and trying to improve throughout the whole season.

“I’m just trying to get the opportunities and when I get them, play good.”

Learning from Thiago

Bajcetic, who is still just 18, was born in Vigo and has been learning from Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcántara at Anfield.

The players’ fathers played alongside each other at Galician club Celta Vigo in the 90s and Bajcetic joined Liverpool from Celta in 2020.

“He makes everything a bit easier. He talks to me a lot, in Spanish as well. He gives me confidence and is always trying to help me. I am very thankful to him for that.”
