Boehly now ‘in talks’ over £30m deal at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are “in talks” with Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais to sign Malo Gusto, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told GIVEMESPORT.

Gusto has caught the eye while in France and Sheth believes Chelsea are pushing hard to get a deal done before the January deadline.

With seemingly no end in sight to their spending spree, Chelsea look set to splurge yet more money before the window slams shut on January 31st.

This time for a right-back, with Lyon’s Gusto being touted by the Blues, according to the MailOnline.

In a report by the online outlet, Chelsea are supposedly readying a £30 million bid for the youngster, amid interest from various different Premier League sides, including Manchester United.

It comes after Chelsea have already spent over £200 million on talent this month alone, with the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix having all been welcomed to Stamford Bridge.

Since acquiring the club in the summer, new owner Todd Boehly has already spent close to £450 million on new players, with the Chelsea hierarchy keen to splash out even further before the January window shuts.

Such has been the nature of Chelsea’s reckless spending spree, there are reports as a result, UEFA could be prompted into drawing up new Financial Fair Play rules.

Regardless, Chelsea don’t appear to be slowing down, with Gusto the latest name linked to a Stamford Bridge switch.

What has Sheth said about Gusto to Chelsea?

Admitting Chelsea are keen on the young right-back, Sheth told GMS in an interview the Blues were hoping to wrap up a deal for Gusto this month.

On the 19-year-old, Sheth claimed: “The Lyon right-back, Malo Gusto, is one they’re definitely looking at.

“They’re in talks with Lyon to try and get that deal over the line.”

What would Gusto offer Chelsea?

One of Europe’s most talented prospects, Gusto has certainly caught the eye since breaking into the Lyon first team two seasons ago.

The 19-year-old has featured 54 times for Lyon during that time frame and contributed to six goals with assists, making it no surprise he’s on the radar of top European clubs.

According to FBref, Gusto ranks inside the top 15 per cent for assists every 90 minutes, when compared to other fullbacks.

What’s more, as per WhoScored, Gusto ranks inside the top four for Lyon’s highest performers this season, having averaged a rating over 7.00 in his 15 matches so far.
