Sporting KC are finalizing a deal to sign Mexican forward Santiago Muñoz, sources tell GIVEMESPORT.
The deal is a loan through the end of the season with a purchase option, sources add. Daniel Sperry of KC Star first reported the deal.
Muñoz, 22, has American citizenship so he won’t occupy an international slot. The forward had a prolific run with various Mexican youth national teams, earning a loan to Newcastle U-23s. He returned to Santos and has scored six first team goals.
The forward adds to a front line in Kansas City led by star Dejan Joveljic, attacking midfielder Manu Garcia and winger Shapi Suleymanov, all signed this winter.
SKC parted ways with long-time manager Peter Vermes within the last month. They are coming off a 5-3 win over the San Jose Earthquakes.
