As previously reported by Get German Football News, Damion Downs is expected to make a move from FC Köln to Southampton.
It is understood that the Championship side will pay €8 million for the 20-year-old striker.
However, losing Downs will be a bitter blow for the Billy Goats, who may have expected to retain their star man as they return to the Bundesliga.
According to Sky Germany (via FT), Köln were prepared to offer Downs an extended deal at the RheinEnergieSTADION with just twelve months remaining on his current contract.
Having registered ten goals and five assists for Die Geißböcke last season, the 20-year-old would have been key for Köln as they look to avoid relegation back to the 2. Bundesliga in the upcoming campaign.
Regardless, the transfer is expected to be finalised after the conclusion of the Gold Cup, where Downs is representing the United States, with a medical scheduled for next week.
