Local Bremen news source Deich Stube reports that Victor Boniface has successfully undergone necessary surgery in Innsbruck.
Persistent knee problems were sited as the reason behind the Nigerian striker’s lack of involvement before the winter break.
Even though the procedure was without complications, this does not change the sporting consequences.
The 25-year-old will no longer be available for Horst Steffen and Bremen as a striker for the remainder of the current campaign.
Bremen’s management remains in close contact with Bayer Leverkusen to coordinate the best possible rehabilitation plan.
All in all, Boniface featured in 326 just minutes of Bundesliga action, providing assists against Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg.
