SC Freiburg right-back Hugo Siquet’s new loan destination was officially confirmed yesterday.
Amid reports that he might be heading for Denmark, under-utilized SC Freiburg right-back Hugo Siquet will actually be returning to his home country on a loan arrangement that shall see him suit up for Cercle Brugge at least until the end of the season. Freiburg and the Jupiler Pro League club confirmed the deal yesterday. The Belgian club announced that they have an option to extend the loan for another year after the conclusion of the season.
“Hugo now needs regular playing time, but we can’t guarantee him that for the foreseeable future,” SCF boss Klemens Hartenbach noted in a statement released by the Breisgau club, “This due to the great competition in our squad. The loan back to his home country thus makes sense and comes at the proper time.”
“I’ve opted to return to Belgium and the Jupiler Pro League,” the 20-year-old said in his own statement, “This is a league that I’m familiar with and appreciate. I’m very happy to sign with Cercle Brugges, a passionate and ambitious club. I can’t wait to be on the pitch.”
