Sergio Ramos offered chance to join Los Angeles

Sergio Ramos has reportedly received a concrete proposal to join Major League Soccer franchise Los Angeles FC.

Following recent speculation linking him with a move to Inter Miami and several Saudi Pro League clubs, the veteran defender has ended up in LAFC’s crosshairs, as per Mundo Deportivo.

Ramos has the freedom to choose his next destination on his own accord after leaving Paris Saint-Germain upon the expiry of his two-year contract at the end of June.

Like Lionel Messi, the 37-year-old refused to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes despite winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles under two different managers.

David Beckham’s side Inter Miami have been heavily linked with the former Real Madrid captain in recent weeks amid rumours of Ramos’ potential reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

The Spaniard’s boyhood club Sevilla were also in the mix earlier in the summer, but that hypothesis has vanished due to the Andalusians’ financial turmoil.

With Los Rojiblancos out of the way, Beckham’s men have emerged as the front-runners to sign one of the most decorated centre-backs in modern football history.

However, the prospect of teaming up with Messi again isn’t tempting enough to lure Ramos to Florida.

California could be his next landing spot, with Los Angeles moving at the top of the queue.

Steve Cherundolo already has one top-class defender at his disposal. Giorgio Chiellini joined LAFC last summer after his contract at Juventus ran out.

At 38, the Italian could be playing his last season. It makes the possibility of Chiellini and Ramos fighting shoulder-to-shoulder more exciting, even at their age.

A move to Los Angeles would briefly rekindle Ramos’ former rivalry with Messi, with the duo battling and bruising for over a decade during their trophy-laden time in La Liga with Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

LAFC will only consider a short-term deal, which is no surprise given the Spanish centre-back’s age.
