Sergio Busquets and Barcelona are to discuss the 34-year-old’s contract renewal, report AS.
The Blaugrana captain’s deal at the Nou Camp is set to expire at the end of the season and there are several rumours linking Busquets to clubs in the MLS and Saudi Arabia. As of January, the Spaniard is free to sign pre-contractual agreements with other teams.
However, it is believed that Barcelona are eager to offer Busquets a one-year extension and he is willing to take a pay cut to help balance the club´s books. Xavi still considers the former Spanish international an indispensable member of the side as he provides invaluable guidance to Barça’s younger players.
He is 72 games behind Lionel Messi, who holds the record for the number of appearances made in the Blaugrana shirt. He won his first trophy as Barcelona captain last month in the form of the 2023 Supercopa de España.
