Former German international goalkeeper Sepp Maier has criticized Manuel Neuer’s performances at the World Cup.
Asked how he would rate Neuer’s performances in Qatar so far, Maier told Sportbuzzer:
“Not that highly, but that goes for the whole team in the first game against Japan. Unfortunately, before the first goal, Manuel could only deflect the shot into the opponent’s feet. When Takuma Asano scored the second goal against him, he was made to look a bit silly, because normally no goal should be scored from such a narrow angle. If the Japanese player shoots 1000 times from there, the ball will go in once,” said Maier.
“But the World Cup is just getting started, and Germany are often a bit shaky at the group stages. They took the first step by playing 1-1 with Spain and should remain calm. The Germans should have scored three or four goals against Japan. But now they’re on their way.”
Germany need to beat Costa Rica tonight to keep their hopes of going through to the knockout stages alive.
