‘Sensational’ Star is ‘About to Join Liverpool’ on Five-Year Deal

Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong, according to Kicker.

The Reds are set for a very busy summer transfer window to help bolster Arne Slot’s squad after clinching their second Premier League title, as they look to build on their successes.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to join the squad after signing last summer, while Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have extended their contracts at Anfield. But with Trent Alexander-Arnold confirming he will leave, Liverpool are eyeing a potential new signing at right-back and Frimpong has emerged as their prime target.

According to a report in Germany, 24-year-old Frimpong is ‘about to join Liverpool’ with the Reds willing to trigger his £33m release clause as they look to replace Alexander-Arnold.

The Netherlands international, who has been described as a ‘fox-in-the-box’ for his attacking style, has been a huge success during his time with Bayer Leverkusen, helping them to win the Bundesliga title last season while going unbeaten, and now looks set for a new challenge after manager Xabi Alonso confirmed his exit.

Talks between the two clubs are said to be ‘very advanced’ and are now ‘close to a successful conclusion’. Frimpong is expected to sign a five-year deal at Anfield, with only a few details left to be clarified.

Slot’s side are set to be busy in the transfer window with new attackers also being targeted amid question marks over the future of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

The Uruguayan striker is said to be a target for Atletico Madrid as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia, while Diaz’s contract situation means the club could be open to offers in order to avoid another situation like they had with Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold this season.

The club are also expected to move for a central defender and left-back this summer, with Bournemouth duo Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez reportedly the top targets.
