After suffering an ankle injury in Schalke’s 3-2 loss against Augsburg back in early October, Sepp van den Berg (20) is expected to be fit earlier than expected, according to Kicker.
The Dutch defender returned to England to work on his rehabilitation, as he is on loan at Schalke from Liverpool. On Friday he met with Schalke’s team doctor. It is unknown whether van den Berg will be back for the beginning of Schalke’s training camp on December 1.
Schalke left the option open to go into January looking for a new central defender but if Van den Berg, Marcin Kaminski and Maya Yoshida are all fit then they won’t pursue a defensive signing. The Royal Blues are also interested in wingers who could provide speed for the team, but they have very little money at hand.
Van den Berg only played four matches for Schalke before his injury playing in the 3-1 win against Bochum, the 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart as well as the losses to Borussia Dortmund as well as Augsburg.
